- Albert Einstein was born in 1879 in Ulm, Germany to Michael & Pauline Einstein, both were Jewish. He had four siblings: Hans Albert (1878), Maria Annemarie (1880), Max Born (1882) and Elsa Marija (1884). His father's occupation was civil engineer and his mother's was housewife. Both parents died when he was young, leaving him to be raised by his older brother Hans Albert.
- In 1900 at age 14, Albert began studying mathematics and physics at the University of Zurich under mathematician Hermann Minkowski. While there he met Mileva Marić who became his first serious girlfriend. She went to study medicine at the University of Vienna but they broke up after she discovered she wasn't attracted to him.
- In 1902, Einstein moved to Munich where he studied law. At the time, he was fascinated by the work of Ludwig Boltzmann and Ernst Mach and was inspired to search for a unified theory of matter that would unite the two theories. This led him to write his famous paper on special relativity, which was published in 1905. After his graduation, he received his doctorate in law and joined the Prussian Patent Office.
- In 1906, Einstein married Mileva Marić. Over the next five years, he struggled to publish his paper on special relativity, but his friend Philipp Lenard managed to get it published in Zeitschrift für Physik. As a result, he was offered a professorship at the University of Berlin, where he taught until 1909. That year, he started working at the patent office again and continued to work there until 1914.
- In 1912, Einstein proposed a radical idea called "Theory of Relativity". When the German government tried to censor him, Einstein left Germany for Princeton, New Jersey. There he worked on general relativity, which was published as a book in 1916. His ideas on the nature of space and time changed our understanding of reality forever.
- Einstein and Mileva divorced in 1919. However, they remained friends and collaborated on many projects including the Unified Field Theory. In 1922, he married Elsa Löwenthal. Their marriage lasted only eight months before she died from stomach cancer.
- On April 6, 1955, Einstein died peacefully in his sleep in Princeton, New Jersey. He was 76 years old.
